5X5X5
January 2021-February 2021: Cleaning the streets of Dehradune, one bag at a time.
Project 5X5X5 was a community clean-up initiative launched to address the growing issue of litter and waste management in Defence Colony, Dehradun. The project was based on a simple yet powerful concept: five members, each committing to collect five bags of trash every day for five consecutive days.
Through this structured and disciplined approach, the team successfully removed 125 bags of waste from the streets, visibly transforming the cleanliness of the area. Beyond the numbers, the project encouraged local residents to take notice of the effort, sparking conversations about civic responsibility, sustainability, and the role of individuals in maintaining their neighborhoods.
What started as a short-term clean-up drive also carried a larger message—that consistent, small-scale action can generate meaningful change. Project 5X5X5 demonstrated how youth-led initiatives can inspire awareness, instill a sense of accountability, and lay the groundwork for long-term community engagement in urban sanitation.
