Purpose for a Paw

August 2023: After the floods in Delhi NCR, several dog shelters were destroyed which led to the forced relocation of thousands of dogs all across the nation resulting in several shelters facing troubles with overpopulation, lack of food and resources and an increase in diseases amongst dogs.

In August 2023, after devastating floods in the Delhi–NCR region left many animal shelters damaged and thousands of dogs displaced, Fight4Rights launched Purpose for a Paw, a campaign to provide urgent relief and long-term care. Partnering with Happy Pooches in Noida (Sector 116), our team of four volunteers stepped in to support recovery efforts by cleaning kennels, bathing rescued dogs, and ensuring the animals received the care they needed in a safe, sanitary environment.

To sustain the shelter’s needs beyond immediate relief, the initiative also mobilised a crowdfunding campaign, raising over ₹150,000. These funds were converted into food, toys, medicines, and other critical supplies, directly benefiting the dogs and helping the shelter rebuild after the floods. Over the course of the project, volunteers bathed more than 70 rescued dogs, restoring dignity and comfort to animals that had endured displacement and trauma.

By combining hands-on service with community mobilisation, Purpose for a Paw demonstrated how compassion and collective action can make a tangible difference. The project not only alleviated immediate suffering but also highlighted the importance of empathy and responsibility toward animals as part of building more resilient, caring communities.
